Tax Season is here again!!!!!

I hope this letter finds you and your families well. The IRS will begin accepting returns this year approximately 1/23/2023. I have included a check list or an organizer to help you prepare for this year’s tax season. Please wait to make sure you have all your forms before scheduling this year’s appointment to avoid costly amendments.

As in prior years if you wish to mail me your forms or send them electronically you are welcome to do so, and I will schedule an appointment to deliver and review your return when completed. Please send me an up-to-date phone number if it has changed from last year so I can contact you for any information I may need. I also have a program called Secure File Pro which is part of my software program that allows you to send documents to me in a safe encrypted format. If you wish to send your documents electronically this would be the safe preferred way to do so. Many of my customers already have an account set up and have found it a safe and easy way to get their documents to me. You simply scan your documents to a PDF file and send them to me. If you would like to do that let me know and I will send you a link so you can set up your account. If you have forgotten your password, give me a call and we will get you reset. There is no charge for this service. If neither of these ways are satisfactory, I will gladly stop by and pick your forms up, meet you somewhere or you can drop them by my house. I have a drop box available for you to drop your documents off. If your returns are simple returns, I can do them at your home for you. If the return needs additional work the above methods are preferable so I can give your return the proper attention it needs.

There are a multitude of tax law changes once again for the 2023 filing season as always. Most of the changes involve a return to pre covid tax laws. The IRS once again will not be releasing any refunds on returns containing College credits, EIC or Child Tax credits until late February or early March. Currently the IRS is listing Tuesday April 18th as the tax deadline. If you need to know if you must file. Go to IRS.Gov/help/ita/do I need to file a tax return. The general rule now is if you owe tax on social security benefits even if no tax is due you must file.

Please try to get everything to me prior to April 1st to avoid extensions and allow me to get you filed on time. Obviously, the earlier you can get things to me the better. If you have questions or concerns, please feel free to give me a call. I look forward to working with you again this year and as always, your referrals are welcome and greatly appreciated.

Sincerely,
Patrick A. O’Connor EA, ChFC
